ChronoAtlas is an educational project exploring historical geography through interactive maps. It's built for curiosity, learning, and exploration - not for navigation, legal research, or professional use.

2. Accuracy & Limitations

History is complex, and so is mapping it. While we strive for accuracy, the maps, data, and historical information on this site may contain errors or be incomplete. This content is provided "as-is" - please don't rely on it for anything critical.

3. Use at Your Own Discretion

ChronoAtlas is a passion project, not a professional service. We cannot be held liable for any losses, damages, or issues that arise from using this site. You're responsible for how you use the information here.

4. External Links

We may link to external websites or resources for additional context. We don't control these sites and aren't responsible for their content or policies.

5. Respectful Use

We ask that you use this site respectfully. Please don't:

• Attempt to disrupt or interfere with the site's operation
• Use automated tools to scrape or copy content
• Redistribute content without permission

6. No Warranties

This site is provided without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

7. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the site means you accept any changes.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands.

9. Sources and licences

ChronoAtlas is built on open software and open data: maps rendered with MapLibre GL JS; base map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), built by Protomaps and served from our own storage, with our own map style; sea names from Natural Earth (public domain); relief from the Terrain Tiles on AWS Open Data; terrain imagery and the seasons of the living map from NASA Blue Marble: Next Generation (NASA Earth Observatory, public domain) and sea depths from the same Terrain Tiles; the water shading of the living map follows Tidewater by Dan Greenheck (MIT License, © 2026 DRG Software Solutions LLC); place search by Photon (komoot, OpenStreetMap data); map labels in Metropolis and Noto Sans (SIL Open Font License); historical borders from historical-basemaps by Andrei Ourednik (GPL-3.0); rulers, dates and flags from Wikidata (CC0), with portraits and descriptions from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA, credited to their authors on Commons); historical map scans via MapWarper, and the Map Room's library maps from the collections of Allard Pierson, University of Amsterdam (CC0), the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (public domain), the Nationaal Archief (CC0), the Leventhal Map & Education Center at the Boston Public Library and the Harvard Map Collection (all public domain, no known restrictions), served through IIIF and georeferenced with Allmaps; we warp and tile the scans ourselves. The Senate's recorded voices were made with Chatterbox (MIT) from speakers of the LibriSpeech corpus (CC BY 4.0, Panayotov et al.); live debate replies are spoken in your browser by Kokoro-82M (Apache 2.0); its 3D figures were made with FormFromLight; the AI guide and senators run on OpenAI. Borders, dates and figures are simplified and may contain errors: ChronoAtlas is for learning and curiosity, not a professional reference.
