At Easter 1916 rebels in Dublin proclaimed an Irish Republic. Six years later most of Ireland was a self-governing Free State, while six counties in the north stayed British. Students compare the 1914 and 1938 maps and weigh the hopes of nationalists and unionists.
Una llamada de la historia · nuevo
Late November 1921, during the treaty negotiations in London
London, England
“You must decide whether to accept a treaty that creates an Irish Free State, giving Ireland its own government but keeping it as a dominion within the British Empire. It also allows Northern Ireland to opt out and stay with Britain. If you refuse, talks may break down and fighting could resume.”
Should I sign the treaty as it stands, or reject it and demand a full republic?
