Un appel de l’histoire · nouveau
Late summer, 1793
The imperial summer palace near Beijing, China
“You must decide whether to allow Britain to trade at more Chinese ports or to continue limiting all European trade to Canton. Opening more ports may bring new goods and knowledge, but could also cause disorder or weaken control. Keeping trade restricted protects tradition and order, but may anger foreign powers.”
Should I let Britain and other Europeans trade at more ports, or keep them limited to Canton?
