Un appel de l’histoire · nouveau
October 1860, after the meeting at Teano
Near Teano, southern Italy
“You must decide whether to hand over the lands I have conquered in the south to King Victor Emmanuel II, helping to unite Italy under his rule, or to keep control myself and possibly continue toward Rome. Marching on Rome could risk war with France, which protects the Pope. Uniting with the king may disappoint some of my followers who want a republic.”
Should I give the south to the king now, or continue the fight toward Rome?
