Een telefoontje uit het verleden · nieuw
The morning after the overthrow, January 18, 1893
ʻIolani Palace, Honolulu, Oʻahu
“You must decide whether to call my supporters to resist the overthrow, risking violence and bloodshed, or to yield power peacefully, hoping that justice will come later. The safety of my people and the future of our kingdom are at stake.”
Should I call for resistance, or yield peacefully to avoid violence?

No Hawaiian ruler is in Rule History. Play Tokugawa Ieyasu, whose Japan kept most foreigners out for over 200 years. Compare with Hawaii's kings, who opened their islands to foreign traders and missionaries. Which choice protected independence better?
