Een telefoontje uit het verleden · nieuw

Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck hangt aan de lijn. De klas beslist.

The night before the Battle of Tanga, November 1914
Tanga, German East Africa

“You must decide whether to defend Tanga with all available forces, risking heavy casualties, or withdraw inland to fight a longer campaign from the countryside. The port is important, but so is keeping our forces intact for future resistance.”

Should I try to hold Tanga against the British attack, or pull back and fight a guerrilla war inland?

Live les · nieuw in Classroom

Klassengesprek

15 min

  1. Why did a war that started in the Balkans spread to Africa, Asia and the Pacific?
  2. In East Africa most of the fighting and carrying was done by Africans. What did they gain from this war, and what did they lose?
  3. Japan joined the Allies in 1914. What did Japan gain in China and the Pacific?
  4. The Arab Revolt began in 1916. What did Arab leaders hope to win, and were those hopes met after the war?
  5. Should the First World War be called a world war? Give two arguments.
4
