Ein Anruf aus der Geschichte · neu
The morning after the attack on Fort Wagner, July 19, 1863
Outside Fort Wagner, near Charleston, South Carolina
“You must decide whether I should keep serving in the Union army, risking my life for a country that does not yet treat Black soldiers equally. We are paid less than white soldiers and face harsh prejudice, but we hope our service will help win freedom and respect for all. If I stay, I may inspire others, but the risks are great.”
Should I continue to fight for the Union, despite the dangers and unfair treatment, or should I refuse to serve until conditions improve?
