Un appel de l’histoire · nouveau
The evening before my trial in January 1649
St James's Palace, London
“You must decide whether to take part in the trial or to refuse. If you defend yourself, you might persuade some that the court is unlawful or win sympathy. If you refuse, you make it clear you do not accept their right to judge a king.”
Should I answer the charges and defend myself, or refuse to recognise the court?
