Germany's first democracy, the Weimar Republic, survived revolts and hyperinflation. Then the Depression struck. Students follow the Nazi party from a failed putsch in Munich to power in Berlin, and ask how a democracy can be destroyed from within.
Un appel de l’histoire · nouveau
Afternoon of 23 March 1933
The Reichstag building, Berlin, Germany
“You must decide whether to vote for or against the Enabling Act, which would give Chancellor Hitler's government the power to make laws without parliament. Voting no could be dangerous, as many opponents have already been threatened or arrested. Voting yes may protect you and your party in the short term, but it could endanger democracy.”
Should I vote against the Enabling Act, even if it puts me and my colleagues at risk?

No ruler in Rule History lived in this period. Play one round as Julius Caesar, who also used a crisis to win sole power in a republic. Then compare: how did Hitler destroy the Weimar Republic, and what could have stopped him?
