Un appel de l’histoire · nouveau
Early 1024, as the first government paper money is prepared for issue
Chengdu, Sichuan, Song China
“You must decide whether to approve the printing and use of government paper money, called jiaozi, to replace heavy iron coins for large transactions in Sichuan. Merchants find coins too bulky, but some worry that paper notes may not be trusted or could be copied. Should the government issue official paper money, and how can trust be built?”
Should I support the printing of government paper money, and what rules would help people trust it?

Zoom out and look at the Song's northern border in 1100. No mountains or wide rivers protect Kaifeng from the north. In 1127 the Jurchen Jin crossed this plain and took the city. Why was it so exposed?
