Una llamada de la historia · nuevo
The late 1040s, after his first tests of movable type
A workshop near Kaifeng, Northern Song China
“You must decide if I should keep developing movable type, even though most printers use carved wooden blocks. Movable type lets me arrange and reuse single characters, but it is slow to set up for Chinese, which has thousands of characters. Wooden blocks are faster for big print runs, but take longer to carve.”
Should I focus on improving movable type, or return to the traditional wooden blocks?
