The eve of the attack on Zara
Aboard the Venetian flagship off Zara (now Zadar, Croatia)
“You must decide whether to attack Zara, as agreed with the crusaders to settle their debt to Venice, or refuse and risk the crusade falling apart. The pope has threatened excommunication if Christians attack other Christians, but many crusaders cannot pay for the ships without taking Zara. The city has rebelled against Venice and is now under the protection of the king of Hungary, himself a crusader.”
Should I lead the attack on Zara, or hold back and risk losing everything we have prepared?
